Breast augmentation surgery / breast enhancement surgery / breast mammoplasty / breast enlargement surgery -whatever name you use - it is a surgical procedure to enlarge small breasts or breasts that have lost their fullness. It may be undertaken to enhance the body shape if breasts are considered too small; to correct a reduction in breast size after pregnancy; to correct a difference in breast size; or breast reconstruction after breast surgery.

Incisions are made where they can least be seen - usually the armpit, around the areola (nipple area), or under the breast itself.
There are 2 surgical techniques of placing the implants. The first is where the implant is placed under the breast tissue and over the chest muscle (subglandular placement).
The second method is where the implant is placed under the chest muscle and breast tissue. (submuscular or subpectoral placement).
The procedure is usually done under general anesthesia.
The surgery takes 1 to 1.5 hour and a bandage is then applied over the new breasts to help with healing for two days postoperatively. You would then attend a follow up appointment where you are given instructions regarding care and activity. After a post-surgical recovery period of 24 to 48 hours and an additional reduced-activity period of a few days, patients will likely experience soreness and swelling for a few weeks. Exercise and normal activity can resume at the direction of the surgeon.
Breast augmentation recovery is not a simple process. In most cases, the breasts that you see immediately after breast implant surgery are not indicative of the final results.
It is not until after six to eight weeks of breast implant recovery that the breasts finally take a shape of their own. Recovery continues until each person feels comfortable with their new breasts.
There are several different stages of the breast implant recovery process. Initially discomfort is to be expected. This discomfort can range from mild to severe, and can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks or more. The stitches that the surgeon uses to close the pocket around the implant will either dissolve on their own within a week of recovery or they will need to be removed by the surgeon seven to 10 days after surgery.
Compression bandages or a compression bra are used immediately after surgery to prevent blood and fluid accumulation, speed healing and keep the implants in place during the early stages of recovery. If bandages are applied, they are usually removed within a day or two and replaced with a compression bra. This bra is usually worn for the first two weeks or more of recovery.
During recovery from breast implant surgery, it is common for some women to experience minor drainage, swelling, bruising and tenderness. To control swelling, it is often helpful to use cold packs and sleep with the torso elevated. Pain medication is often prescribed to reduce pain, and limiting activity during recovery will help reduce the risk of bruising. For most women, the full recovery from breast implant surgery usually takes a few months. Everyday activities can usually be resumed with two weeks. However, as with all surgeries, recovery time is different for each patient.
Complications. Like any surgery some complications can occur. The most common problem - capsular contracture - occurs if the scar or capsule around the implant begins to tighten. This squeezing of the soft implant can cause the breast to feel hard - this can be treated - either by removal or 'scoring' of the scar tissue, or perhaps removal and replacement of the implant. Excessive bleeding after the operation may cause some swelling and pain - occasionally women develop an infection around the implant - some reports of nipples becoming oversensitive, undersensitive, or even numb. Occasionally breast implants may break or leak.
Male breast implants. There are no significant physiological differences between male and female breast tissue other than the initial volume. The surgical procedure for male breast augmentation is identical. Through inserting an implant behind each breast, surgeons are able to enlarge a man's bustline by a cup size. Because men usually have less skin in that area it is recommended that they start with the smaller implant so that the body can get used to the new shape and stretch over the area.
Male breast implants, also known as pectoral implants, serve a separate purpose from transgender implants. Usually, male breast implants are designed to help sculpt the chest area and provide definition. Patients who opt for male breast implants often have experienced difficulty gaining their desired muscle definition through exercise alone.
Other candidates use male breast implants to mask problems caused by injury or growth defects affecting the pectoral muscles. Like liposuction, male breast implants can provide results that are otherwise impossible for certain individuals.

The Vagina and even the word seems mystical.
Most of a woman’s sexual organs are internal, rather than external, but we shall examine the vagina, and what leads to it, and what it leads to. This is a really then an examination of a woman’s sexual organs.
The External Areas
Leading to the vagina, one must begin with the “mons pubis” or mound of Venus. This is some fatty tissue that is just beneath the woman’s pubic hair, and this pillow cushions the area during intercourse.
Next is the clitoris, and although considered an external element of the woman’s sex organs, the greater part of it is internal.
The clitoris could be considered a miniature penis, as it contains as many nerve endings as penis does. It is very sensitive to stimulation, and during sexual excitement, the clitoris swells (as does a penis), and becomes even more sensitive.
Constant stimulation to a clitoris will generally result in an orgasm. Strangely, the clitoris when stimulated can retract internally even more than it is when un-stimulated. The actual clitoris extends all the way to the vagina.
There are two sets of “lips” called Labia Majora and Labia Minora. The Labia Majora (larger lips) act to protect the opening of the vagina and the urethra opening.
The Labia Minora again cover the opening of the vagina, but these secrete a lubricating liquid called ‘sebum’ to facilitate the entry of the penis. Also these lips tend to shelter the clitoris.
The last external area is call the perineum, and this is the area (also sensitive) between the opening of the vagina (called the vulva) and the anus.
The Internal Components of a Woman’s Sexual Organs
The vagina itself is the connecting area from the vulva to the cervix.
The vagina itself is where the penis is placed at intercourse, and it has its own very sensitive area called the g-spot (about 2 to 3 inches inside and on the top side of the vagina).
The vagina is smaller than a penis, but is very flexible and can accommodate penises of very large sizes. The penis itself however cannot travel further than the opening of the cervix.
The Cervix is the connecting area to the uterus.
The uterus is the area where fertilized eggs will lodge themselves and grow into the fetus (the immature child).
The last part of the woman’s sexual organs are the ovaries (which correspond to a man’s testicles) as they make eggs, and the female hormone estrogen (along with progesterone and even small amounts of testosterone!). Connected to the ovaries are the fallopian tubes. The Fallopian Tubes receive fertilized eggs and sperm (if present) where the eggs become fertilized.
Care of the Vagina
This is a very large subject, but generally, there are some rules which apply to “partners” and will tend to keep the vagina and the partner’s penis healthy.
1. Use condoms if you can, and always with new partners.
2. Should your partner wish to insert fingers into the vagina, it would be well advised to kept their hands very clean, trim their fingernails very low and be careful not to have any sharp areas on the fingernails.
3. Before a sexual encounter, a shower or bidet wash is advised, and certainly after the sexual encounter.
4. Be very careful of bacterial and yeast infections. To prevent them, one should not allow vaginal and anal penetration with the same condom. After any anal penetration (either with a penis, finger or toy), it must be thoroughly washed before being placed in a vagina.
5. Women must take a great care in their personal hygiene, and after defecation, wipe themselves in a single direction motion only, always away from the vagina towards the anus.

For thousands of years knowledge of the herbs and wild plants that could increase fertility were the secrets of the village wise women. But after the holocaust against European Wise Women (the "burning times") and the virtual extermination of Native American medicine women, this knowledge virtually disappeared. In fact, many people erroneously believe that "primitive people" had no means of controlling the likelihood of pregnancy. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Many common plants can be used to influence fertility, including red clover, partridge berry, liferoot, wild carrot, and wild yam. Some of these grow wild, others are easy to cultivate, and, with the exception of wild carrot, all are also readily available at health food stores.
One of the most cherished of the fertility-increasing plants is red clover (Trifolium pratense). Common in fields and along roadsides, it has bright pink (not really red) blossoms from mid-summer into the chilly days of fall. A favorite flower of the honeybees, the tops (blossoms and appending leaves) are harvested on bright sunny days and eaten as is, or dried for medicinal use. The raw blossoms are delicious in salads and nutritious when cooked with grains such as rice or millet.
To make a fertility-enhancing infusion, I take one ounce by weight of the dried blossoms (fresh won't work for this application) and put them in a quart size canning jar. I fill the jar with boiling water, screw on a tight lid, and let it steep at room temperature overnight (or for at least four hours). Dozens of women have told me that they had successful pregnancies after drinking a cup or more (up to four cups) a day of red clover infusion.
It is especially helpful if there is scarring of the fallopian tubes, irregular menses, abnormal cells in the reproductive tract, or "unexplained" infertility. It may take several months for the full effect of this herb to come on and pregnancy may not occur until you have used it for a year or two. You can improve the taste by including some dried peppermint (a spoonful or two) along with the dried clover blossoms when making your infusion. Treat the father of the child-to-be to some red clover infusion too!
That little evergreen creeper that carpets some parts of the woods around your house is partridge berry (Mitchella repens), also known as squaw weed, supposedly because of its ability to enhance fertility. (My teacher Twylah Nitsch, grandmother of the Seneca Wolf clan, says that "squaw" is a slang term meaning "schmuck" or, in the proper term, "penis," and therefore should not be used in denoting a plant meant to be used by women.) Keep an eye out this spring and see if you can catch Mitchella blooming. Then you'll see why she's sometimes called "twin flower."
Interestingly, when the paired flowers fall off, they leave behind but one berry to ripen. (The shiny red berries you've noticed in the forest winter or spring. Yes, they are safe to eat, but leave some for the partridges.) The symbolism of two flowers forming one berry is certainly a suitable icon for fertility. I make a medicinal vinegar by filling a small jar with the fresh leaves, adding apple cider vinegar until the jar is full again. A piece of waxed paper held in place with a rubber band and a label (including date) completes the preparation, which must sit at room temperature for six weeks before use. I enjoy up to a tablespoonful of the vinegar on my salads or in my beans.
By mid- to late-May, the yellow blossoms of liferoot (Senecio aureus) enliven my swamp (in upstate New York) and the neighboring roads where there is adequate water and rich soil. A powerful medicine resides in all parts of this lovely wildflower. As the root has a dangerous reputation, I restrict myself to using only the flowers and leaves, which I harvest in bloom, and quickly tincture. (For instructions for making your own tinctures, please see any of my books.) Small doses of this tincture (3-8 drops a day), taken at least 14 days out of the month, will regulate hormone production, increase libido, normalize the menses, relieve menstrual pain, and improve fertility. The closely related Senecia jacobea and Senecio vulgaris can also be used.
Wild carrot (Daucus carota), better known as Queen Anne's lace, is such a common roadside plant that most people are amazed to learn that it is a proven anti-fertility herb. In addition to being the wild cousin of carrot, it is related to parsley, dill, caraway, anise, celery, cumin, and a (now extinct) plant whose seeds were the birth-control of choice for many a classical Greek or Roman woman.
The aromatic seeds of wild carrot are collected in the fall and eaten (a heaping teaspoonful a day) to prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg. In one small study the effectiveness rate after thirteen months of use was 99%. As modern scientific medicine reports that one-third of all fertilized eggs are passed out of the body without implanting in the uterus, this method of birth control seems in complete agreement with nature.
Of the hundreds of women currently using this anti-fertility agent, I have heard virtually no reports of any side-effects. Note that many books caution you to beware the danger of confusing poison hemlock and wild carrot. Poison hemlock is rather scarce in our area, and, at any rate, does not smell or taste of carrot (as does Queen Anne's lace), so I believe this warning to be a red herring. In addition, wild carrot leaves have small hairs on them, while the leaves of poison hemlock are smooth.
Another anti-fertility herb that has been tested by small groups of modern women is wild yam (Dioscorea villosa). Since birth-control pills were originally made from this plant, it is not at all surprising that it has the effect of blocking conception when taken daily in rather large doses: either a cup of tea or two capsules taken three times a day.
Does it have detrimental effects? Current studies are too small to show any, but there is a possibility that there could be. Interestingly enough, if wild yam is taken in small doses (a cup of tea or 10-20 drops of the tincture daily from onset of menses until mid-period) it increases fertility! In either case, the effect seems to be triggered by the large amount of hormone-like substances found in this root. When taken daily, these substances may be converted into progesterone, thus decreasing the possibility of conception. When taken for the two weeks preceding ovulation, these substances may be converted into LH and FSH, hormones that are needed to make the egg ready to be fertilized.
Other common weeds and garden plants of our area that have been used to increase or decrease fertility include stinging nettle, oatstraw, pennyroyal, Jack-in-the-pulpit, rue, and parsley.
